Sakala Mitra Awareness Programme

Helping citizens understand the services available to them.

Government services can only make a difference when people know about them and understand how to access them.

Through the Sakala Mitra Awareness Programme, Upkriti works with volunteers and community groups to create awareness about citizen services and the Karnataka Guarantee of Services to Citizens Act, 2011.

The programme focuses on taking information closer to households and helping citizens understand the importance of timely and transparent public service delivery.

Impact at a glance

  • 184 households covered
  • The programme was supported by NSS volunteers from BMS Women's College, demonstrating how student volunteering can be connected with meaningful civic awareness at the community level.
  • The initiative contributes to a more informed citizenry by bridging the gap between government services and the people they are intended to serve. The programme is part of Upkriti's wider work with government and public service initiatives in Karnataka.

These programmes have brought students, volunteers and communities together around practical environmental action. They create cleaner public spaces while building a stronger culture of environmental responsibility and civic participation.
